In late 2024, the Officer of Inspector General (OIG) released its first compliance guidelines for nursing homes in over 25 years. The Industry-Specific Compliance Program Guidance (ISCPG) builds on the General Compliance Program Guidance (GCPG) from late 2023. Key changes include the incorporation of risk assessments, emphasis on resident safety and quality, enhanced oversight and leadership expectations, and a clearer role for compliance officers. Legislation and grant-funded projects have helped improve the guardianship process in Pennsylvania Courts, enhancing access to due process and promoting alternatives to guardianship. It is essential to seek guardianship for an individual only as a last resort. This session will highlight the alternatives to guardianship outlined in Act 61 of 2023 and explain how these options can provide individuals with the assistance they need while preserving their autonomy and decision-making abilities as much as possible.
