White Horse Village raises over $29,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association
Senior living community receives top fundraising award
(Newtown Square, Pa.) — The fifth annual White Horse Village Walk to End Alzheimer’s fundraiser on June 19, 2024, has exceeded its goal, raising an impressive $29,010. The event began in 2020 when the pandemic forced the cancellation of the greater Philadelphia Walk. In the face of this challenge, the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter turned to White Horse Village, and the community responded by raising $18,001 at its first event, with a five-year total of $140,698. Donations to this year’s Walk can be made at https://bit.ly/alzwalk24 until December 31, 2024.
Resident and team member event leaders work hard to unite the entire community for fun and accessible Walk events. “We create a range of activities to engage participants beyond the half-mile and mile walk on the event day, including indoor swimming and exercise challenges, raffle baskets, rubber duck derby, hat decorating contest and pinwheel and bake sales,” shares resident co-chair Duane Thurman. We were delighted to have KYW Newsradio traffic reporter Malcolm Poindexter III back at this year’s event to create a motivating playlist with toes tapping and hands clapping.
White Horse Village has received annual recognition from the Delaware Valley chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association for its outstanding fundraising efforts. In May, Megan DiPanni, Vice President of Development, presented the 2023 Top Continuing Care Retirement Community Award to White Horse Village for raising $37,379.86 in the Philadelphia region.
"The dedication and enthusiasm from our residents, team members and community supporters are inspiring and a true testament to the power of community. Together, we have taken significant steps towards raising crucial funds and awareness for Alzheimer's disease research and support," comments Susan Abtouche, Vice President of Mission Enhancement.
Resident co-chair Bonnie Scott adds, "This Walk holds deep personal significance for me and many in our community who have lost loved ones to Alzheimer's. We passionately believe in fundraising for such a worthy research cause. I look forward to the day when we can present a white pinwheel to the first Alzheimer’s survivor, thanks to the advancements made possible by the research we support."
