Experts in Intergenerational Programs to Convene in Lancaster, Pa., for the Mid-Atlantic Intergenerational Conference
Lancaster, PA – Penn State University is proud to announce the Mid-Atlantic Intergenerational Conference, scheduled for July 10-12, 2024, at the Lancaster Holiday Inn. This exciting event will bring together experts in intergenerational programs, multi-generational families, and urban planning to discuss and promote intergenerational approaches to living, learning, and growing.
The conference is designed for community-based organizations, administrators, educators, scholars, advocates, volunteers, students, and others interested in intergenerational programs and practices. Attendees will explore innovative, impactful initiatives across various sectors, including education, health, arts, environment, and workforce development.
Conference Highlights
Intergenerational Community Planning & Placemaking Symposium: A full-day pre-conference symposium on July 10 will focus on policies that encourage and support intergenerational community planning. It will feature:
- American Planning Association’s 2023 Report on Intergenerational Community Planning.
- Lancaster City’s integration of intergenerational perspectives within its Comprehensive Planning process.
- Funding resources through HUD and the Community Revitalization Act for intergenerational housing.
Conference Tracks
Attendees can participate in various tracks covering:
- Education and lifelong learning
- Health and wellness
- Arts, culture, and recreation
- Built and natural environments
- Kinship care families
Featured Speakers
- Rob Kaplow: Award-winning conductor, composer, and author, will open the conference with a musical, interactive session.
- Donna Butts: Executive Director of Generations United, will deliver a keynote presentation.
- Steve Lindsey: Chief Executive Officer for Garden Spot Communities, will deliver a keynote presentation about the need for intergenerational interaction and a vision for the future.
Continuing Education Credits will be available for the full conference, and CM credits from AICP will be offered for the pre-conference symposium.
