LeadingAge Pa Issues Statement on Federal Nursing Home Minimum Staffing Rule
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (April 22, 2024)—LeadingAge PA President and CEO Garry Pezzano today issued the following statement on the Biden Administration’s announcement that the high-contested nursing home minimum staffing rule has been finalized.
“The Biden Administration’s federal staffing rule is a staggering disappointment to nursing home providers everywhere. This is especially true in Pennsylvania where we’re already seeing the impacts of underfunded, ill-timed state mandates firsthand. The implications are stark for providers, staff, and older adults alike. Mission-driven providers will continue to be forced to decrease capacity, sell, or close entirely. Existing staff will face further burn-out and excessive overtime for the sake of additional workers who do not exist. And seniors will find themselves with less and less options for high-quality care in the communities of their choosing.
“At the same time, we refuse to lose hope. LeadingAge PA stands ready to fight for legislative solutions, regulatory reforms, and exponential change, while providing needed support for our members.”
