Weathering Workforce Showers
April showers bring May flowers! And our workforce has been in the “shower” stage for quite a while. For the first time in recent memory, it’s not only the health care sector struggling with staffing, it’s everyone. Though this makes things remarkably more difficult, it also gives us the opportunity to learn from each other and form partnerships to address our challenges. It’s important to remember: these showers have not been for nothing. They have forced us out of our comfort zones, challenged us to think creatively and come up with outside-the-box recruitment and retention strategies. LeadingAge PA has been hard at work to make the most of these showers and capitalize on the opportunities at hand. Spring has some gifts in store for us all!
CareersToLove PA is BACK!
LeadingAge PA is thrilled to announce that we will also be launching our Second Annual CareersToLove PA campaign this summer and early fall. Using the data and feedback from last year’s campaign, we are excited to build on our successes and tweak our strategy in the right places so we can continue to use our collective voice and make a difference for our workforce. This campaign is a great opportunity to drive interest in senior living careers right now (as evidenced by the 800 applications submitted last year) while also planting the seeds for our future workforce by raising the profile of the industry through targeted digital ads.
Our team is looking forward to providing our 2021 campaign participants with some exclusive bonus opportunities this spring. Didn’t participate last year but want to get in on the action? Registration for 2022 will open in June. Stay tuned!
Not sure if your community participated in 2021? Have questions about the campaign in general? Just reach out to LeadingAge PA's Manager of Workforce Initiatives, Erin McDermott!
Careers in Aging Week 2022
Looking for more opportunities to promote the workforce in April? Don’t forget about Careers in Aging Week 2022! Join in with the rest of the industry April 17-23 to promote careers in your communities on social media with the hashtag #CareersInAging. This collective effort from the Gerontological Society of America, LeadingAge, and other industry partners, helps to raise general awareness of our field and the career opportunities we have to offer.
(CareersToLove PA 2021 participants: This would be a great opportunity to use your toolkit items!)
Our Newest HEPP Partner
We recently added a new partner to our Higher Education Partnership Program, Marywood University! Marywood University will provide excellent educational and professional development opportunities to our members in northeastern Pennsylvania—and virtually across the commonwealth. This brings our total number of partners across the state to seven, each offering unique opportunities to your staff, and in some cases your staff’s spouses and dependents. We continue to work with other institutions of higher learning to expand our reach and the breadth of educational opportunities. Consider printing out the one-pager and bring them to your next career fair opportunity, or include them in your pay stubs to encourage current staff to take advantage of this awesome benefit!
Spring is a time of growth and change, and there is plenty of reason to be optimistic about the future. By coming together, we can make a difference in our workforce today, while building opportunities for our workforce in the future. Let’s make the most of this time of showers and grow our workforce!
