Q: What is your favorite hobby?
As crazy as it sounds, the kind of work that I do professionally is also a major focus of my free time. I’m deeply involved with several fraternal associations, serving in leadership roles at the local, state, and national level. I have a passion for saving the history of these organizations, which culminated in the founding of the Center for Fraternal Collections and Research at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where I continue to serve on the Board of Directors.
Q: What is your favorite trip?
In the Fall of 2024, we did a 9 day trip to London, England. We made the most of the visit, walking nearly 75 miles during that time. I was also able to meet with some of my fraternal Brothers from England for the first time, which was very memorable.
Q: What was your favorite television show as a child? Why was it your favorite?
As an “Elder Millennial” one cannot overestimate the impact the both the Muppets and Sesame Street had on my formative years. To this day, it’s not Christmas without a viewing of a “A Muppet Family Christmas” and “The Muppet Christmas Carol.” These programs managed to wholesome for kids, while giving adults something to laugh at as well. They were proto-Pixar in so many ways.
Q: What is your favorite family dish?
My maternal grandmother used to make these soft banana flavored cookies every Christmas before she passed. My parents still make a small batch for me each year. I’ve never encountered anything else like them, and you certainly can’t get them at the grocery store! (Let the record show that I am completing this questionnaire just after the holiday break, so that might account for my focus on the holidays!)
Q: What is your favorite quote?
Conveniently, it applies to both my hobbies and professional life!
“Wherever at the head of some new undertaking, you see the government in France, or a man of rank in England, in the United States you would be sure to find an association.” - Alexis de Tocqueville
